Move Over, Rsync

Rsync has been the over-the-network synchronization tool of choice for sysadmins for nearly two decades.  While some imitators and competitors have sprung up, they’re generally either crude ports or pale imitations.  That’s not necessarily the case anymore – filesystem-level replication such as ZFS uses is more efficient, in some cases by three or four orders of magnitude.  Come learn how and why replication blows the doors off of rsync, and whether it’s time to reconsider both your storage and your backup techniques.
