150 Attend Post-Quantum Cryptography Meetup

Our second November meetup was a MASSIVE success!

More than 150 technologists from all over the RTP region attended and participated. The event was hosted at Cisco’s RTP headquarters. Cisco also provided the amazing food and beverages.

Matt Caswell, President & Senior Software Engineer at OpenSSL, delivered a 15-20 minute presentation “Open Source Post-Quantum Cryptography with OpenSSL”.

The presentation was followed by an engaging / fascinating panel discussion featuring:

  • Scott Fluhrer, Principal Engineer, Cisco
  • Panos Kampanakis, Principal Security Engineer, AWS
  • Jai Arun, Head of Product Management & Strategy, Quantum Safe and Crypto-Agility Products, IBM Software
  • Aydin Aysu, Associate Professor, University Faculty Scholar, Electrical & Computer Engineering Department, North Carolina State University

Our next meetup will take place Tuesday evening, December 2 at the LexisNexis headquarters on NC State’s Centennial campus. It’s free to attend but an RSVP is required. *Also, attendance is limited due to seating capacity, so hurry if interested.

Finally, a HUGE shoutout and thank you to Cisco’s Holly Iverson for working with us on the venue and being such a wonderful host. Thanks also to the team at OpenSSL for the partnership.

  • This article by OpenSSL Communities Manager Jon Ericson is a great follow-up read about post-quantum cryptography in general and its use in OpenSSL 3.5 specifically.
  • We (OpenSSL) invite everyone who attended to get involved with the OpenSSL project. This page outlines all the different ways folks can contribute to the project, learn more about it, and engage with our community.
  • The recent OpenSSL Conference included many sessions on PQC. You can find those sessions and their slides here; video recordings of all presentations will be coming soon!
  • As a nonprofit organization, one of OpenSSL Foundation’s most pressing challenges is funding. We invite everyone who cares about open source privacy and security to donate. We welcome gifts of all types, from small personal contributions on Github Sponsors to major corporate partnership support.
