How to get involved with We Love Open Source
Watch this video to learn more about We Love Open Source and how to contribute.
Todd Lewis sits down with We Love Open Source managing editor, Jason Hibbets, to go behind the scenes of a new blog launched in April 2024. In the interview, we learn that the All Things Open community has been asking for this educational resource for a number of years and that tutorials and how-to’s are popular content being written by the community, for the community. Learn more about the We Love Open Source educational hub and see how you can contribute.
What is We Love Open Source?
We Love Open Source is an open source community educational hub that includes blogs, interviews, presentations, podcasts, how-to’s, and more, from the All Things Open community members.
Key takeaways
- I think the first thing to start off with is that the community has been asking for this for a number of years, and we’re finally able to bring an educational resource in the form of blogs, how-to’s, and tutorials to the All Things Open community.
- We are looking to publish as much as we can on a regular basis. We are looking to expand the topics. I’d like to get to a point where we have a writer community that we can have more than a one way conversation with.
- It’s been amazing to watch the growth see something sort of spun up and started really from scratch in just five or six months. So I’m very excited about the future.
- I look forward to seeing more contributions coming in and more proposals and I’m happy to work with people to get that through our editorial process and get everything up and running and really look forward to working with new authors and hear their stories and what they’re passionate about.
New to writing? Start here.
We love featuring first-time writers and folks who are just starting to share their stories. If you’re not sure what to write about, here are some easy ways to get started:
- Write about what you know. Share your experience working with an open source project, tool, or community.
- Write about something you’re learning. Talk about a new programming language, framework, or tool you’re exploring—and what others should know if they’re getting started too.
- Write about a problem you solved. Walk us through a bug you fixed, a feature you added, or a challenge you worked through.
- Write about your experience using a new open source app. Share what worked, what didn’t, and what others can expect.
- Write about your open source journey. Tell us how you got involved in open source and what you’ve learned along the way.
- Write about community and collaboration. Highlight a positive experience contributing to a project or working with others.
- Write for your past self. What do you wish you’d known six months ago? A year ago? Help someone else with that same question today.
You don’t need to be an expert—you just need a story. We’re here to help you share it.
