A community education resource

We Love Open Source turns one: A year of sharing, learning, and growing together

Thank you to the contributors, listeners, and readers who made this milestone possible.

I’m in a little bit of shock.

I came back from Spring break and realized that We Love Open Source started publishing community content in April 2024. That means it’s been a full year of sharing some incredible blogs, tutorials, and interviews from folks in our open source community.

Anytime I travel—especially when I get a chance to unplug and unwind—I come back with fresh perspectives. And this time, I came back with deep appreciation. This platform wouldn’t exist without our amazing contributors. To every volunteer author, podcast guest, and behind-the-scenes helper: Thank you. You’ve made We Love Open Source a resource worth coming back to for our community.

If you’ve worked with me before, you know I love using anniversaries to reflect on what we’ve built—and to celebrate the community behind it. So first, let’s start with a little appreciation. Then we can geek out on some stats.

A year of open source voices, ideas, and impact

Over the past year, We Love Open Source has become a go-to hub for sharing developer stories, open source projects, technical tutorials, and community conversations. Here’s what we’ve accomplished together:

  • 260 articles published since launch
  • 50+ unique authors (and more joining every month!)
  • 80+ podcast interviews with developers, maintainers, and open source champions

That’s a lot of knowledge—built by the community, for the community.

Why we started this

As Todd Lewis, founder of All Things Open, explains:

“I’ve been really impressed with the response from the community. It’s something they’ve been asking us to do for a number of years, and the stars finally aligned for us to make it happen.”

“We’ve got a lot of momentum right now, and if there’s one thing that I could ask of the ATO community, it’s to consider contributing to We Love Open Source. We’re looking for blog posts, tutorials, and other contributions that will help boost our community’s open source IQ.”

It’s clear there was a need—and you showed up in a big way.
