ATO Code of Conduct
Code of Conduct
Before we get to the statement of our policy and associated definitions we’d like to start with reporting details. Above all else, the ATO team wants to make it as easy as possible to report an incident and get an immediate response.
Reporting
If you experience a Code of Conduct violation, see a violation, are concerned about the well-being, safety or behavior of a colleague, or just have a general question (violations are not always obvious) please do one of the following two (2) things:
- Email All Things Open at info@allthingsopen.org. This email will be monitored constantly throughout the event.
- If you prefer not to email, call or text Jennifer Suber (ATO staff / event coordinator) at 803-608-6161. She will assist you immediately and discreetly.
We Respect Your Privacy
If we are contacted for any reason we will respond and handle the situation discreetly and while fully respecting your privacy. We understand there might be questions and even a little uncertainty. That’s ok! We want you to feel safe while attending the conference. We’ll work overtime to assist you regardless of the question, issue or situation.
Statement of Policy
Code of Conduct
All Things Open is dedicated to providing a harassment-free environment at all of our events – whether in-person or virtual – and one that makes attendees feel welcome and secure to engage in open dialogue with other attendees, speakers, and sponsors. We take this very seriously. Harassment of any type will not be tolerated and will be addressed immediately.
Anti-harassment Policy
All Things Open Conference is dedicated to providing a harassment-free conference experience for everyone regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, operating system or text editor of choice. We do not tolerate harassment of conference participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate for any conference venue, including talks. Conference participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference [without a refund] at the discretion of the conference organizers.
What Harassment Includes
Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
Exhibitors, Sponsors, & Speakers
Exhibitors, Sponsors and Speakers are also subject to the anti-harassment policy. In particular, exhibitors should not use sexualized images, activities, or other material. Booth staff (including volunteers) should not use sexualized clothing/uniforms/costumes, or otherwise create a sexualized environment.
Consequences
If a participant engages in harassing behavior, the conference organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender, expulsion from the conference [with no refund], or exclusion from future events.
If a participant (or individual wishing to participate in an All Things Open event), through postings on social media or other online publications or another form of electronic communication, engages in conduct that violates this policy, whether before, during or after an All Things Open event, All Things Open may take appropriate corrective action, which could include imposing a temporary or permanent ban on an individual’s participation in future All Things Open events.
Statement About Socials (if any ATO socials are conducted)
Social are intended to provide networking opportunities and an opportunity to unwind after a long day. They should also be places attendees can feel safe and secure.
ATO wants you to enjoy yourself at our socials, but we also want you to be safe. If you think you may have had too much to drink, you feel unwell or your transportation arrangements fall through unexpectedly during any of our socials, please don’t hesitate to find an ATO representative at the registration table who will gladly assist you. Likewise, if you are concerned about the well-being, safety or behavior of a colleague, please let an ATO staff member know immediately. Can’t see an ATO staff member? Please call or text Jennifer Suber (ATO staff member / event coordinator) at 803-608-6161. She will assist you immediately and discretely.
