April RTP Meetup: Managing Infrastructure with OpenTofu

April 16 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

» RSVP & Register on Meetup.com

Managing infrastructure and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) are topics of huge interest to our community, and we’ll use the April meetup as an opportunity to examine an open source software (OSS) tool that will help you do both better – OpenTofu.

We’ll be onsite at Fidelity Investments in Durham, and lots of networking, swag and food and beverages are guaranteed!

In addition to the tremendous educational opportunity, we’ll also give away ATO hats, t-shirts and stickers, as well as our newest t-shirt – We Love Open Source.

Doors open at 5:30 for networking and food and beverages, live programming begins at 6:30 pm ET sharp. We’ll wrap up by 8:00 as we know everyone is busy with work, family, etc.

Registration and Government ID Required

Please note, security protocols onsite require everyone attending to register ahead of time using your first and last name as it appears on your government ID. You’ll need to bring that ID with you to the event. You can register in 30 seconds using the form below.

» Register Your First & Last Name

Upon entry you will be directed to a table where your id will be checked and you will be given your pre-registered nametag and you will be escorted into the event space. This will help speed you through the lobby and get you to the food, swag, and content without delay.

Talk Title: How I Learned to Stop Worrying about my Infrastructure and Love [Open]Tofu

Everyone is worried about something breaking in their tech toolchain so let infrastructure-as-code (IaC) be one way you can focus on your meal and less the ingredients. Join us to learn about why you should consider using OpenTofu and how you can start using Tofu today to manage your infrastructure. Douglas will demonstrate how to use Tofu from the simplest configurations, to more detailed deployments, and finally show you how to test that your Tofu IaC configuration will work as advertised with continuous delivery.

In this session you can expect to learn:

  • The advantages we have found in adopting OpenTofu
  • How you can reuse your experience and tooling for Hashicorp Terraform
  • How to test Tofu configuration works as intended

Speaker: Douglas Flagg

Doug is a Principal Cloud Engineer at Fidelity Investments who collaborates daily with multiple internal business partners to deliver customer value through development of IaC tools and practices and applying them practically in various public clouds. Because of the visibility this role gives him into how engineers across Fidelity do IaC, Doug has great insight on what works well and what patterns, practices and tools do not work effectively.

Recently, Doug was selected to share his unique insights at Fidelity’s annual cloud conference where he presented “Terraform: Building an Infrastructure-as-Code Platform for the Enterprise.” In addition, he was selected to present on a Fidelity video series called “Cloudbytes” where he introduced and walked fellow developers through the Terraform Datadog Monitor Module he helped to develop. Doug has organized and taught several workshops including “Terraform 101” and “Testing Terraform through Terratest.”

Venue doors officially open at 5:30 pm, live programing begins at 6:30 pm ET sharp. We’ll begin the evening with a few community announcements, then we’ll quickly move to our speakers.
