JupyterHub for Distance Learning

Charlotte Mays

One of the most frustrating parts of teaching students to code is ensuring that they all have correctly installed the necessary components. This frustration is amplified when attempting to teach remotely, as there is no instructor available to sit at the student’s computer to straighten out installation quirks. JupyterHub provides a method by which students can use their web browser to log into a central server, providing code editor, interpreter, and dependencies all controlled by the instructor. This talk will cover the server setup as well as experiences from using this method to teach an introduction to Python remotely.
